What Types of Forestry Equipment Does John Deere Offer?

John Deere Forestry Equipment Lineup

When thinking about John Deere equipment, the first thing that comes to mind will likely be agricultural equipment, such as tractors or combines, but the company also offers forestry equipment. Let’s take a closer look.

  • The John Deere Feller Buncher: The feller buncher is used for harvesting logs. It is a piece of logging equipment that oftentimes has a heavy base, where the operator would be located. From here, the operator uses the saw or shear to encompass the tree in order to harvest it.
  • The John Deere Forwarder: After the feller buncher is utilized to harvest logs, a forwarder is then used to carry those same logs. John Deere forwarders are typically designed to be attached to John Deere tractors, meaning they can typically cover any kind of terrain.
  • The John Deere Harvester: Similarly to a feller buncher, a harvester is used to harvest logs. It also has a heavy machine base for the operator to sit, as well as an arm that is utilized for clear-cutting and grabbing logs.
  • The John Deere Knuckleboom Loader: The knuckleboom loader helps to load the logs up on a trailer. This specific piece of forestry equipment has a very large fuel tank (holds 90 gallons), an efficient hydraulic system that helps manage fuel consumption, and dedicated swing circuits that improve productive loading and delimbing.
  • The John Deere Skidder: A skidder not only removes the trees from a forest, but it also helps to transport them to a clearing. There are many different pieces that can also make your skidder stand out, including different engines, transmissions, winches, grapples, axles, and cabs.
  • The John Deere Swing Machine: Swing machines look extremely similar to excavators but the way they work and what they do is quite the opposite. They have many different purposes, including being used as a shovel logger, a harvester, a processor, a roadbuilder, and more.
