John Deere has launched its latest operator assistance control feature, Intelligent Boom Control (IBC), to better assist its customers in the forestry industry. This technology will now be available for the 900 MH-Series Tracked Harvester, specifically for the 953MH and 959MH models.

“The continuous product development, new features, and the updating of systems and solutions are integral parts of John Deere’s way of operating,” said Jim O’Halloran, product marketing manager at John Deere. “Intelligent Boom Control is an example of an important operator assistance feature that we will continue to evolve throughout full tree forestry. Developing solutions for our customers’ needs is our number 1 priority, and investing in innovation, like IBC, is an example that helps the overall productivity and profitability for the whole machine life cycle.”

Operators no longer have to control each independent boom function separately. Instead, one joystick can move the boom tip horizontally while a second guides it vertically. Ultimately, operators will have more precise control and experience faster cycling times. Additionally, the IBC’s smooth, fluid motion dampens the functional change of direction. This protects boom structures and extends wear life.

By utilizing IBC, forestry professionals will experience improved productivity while being able to focus on controlling their attachment. IBC also automatically controls the swing speed based on the overall position of the attachment. The controls are designed to mirror how the equipment would function if it were an operator’s arm for intuitive purposes.
